The global nonlinear stability of the Minkowski space by Demetrios Christodoulou( Book )

12 editions published between 1989 and 1993 in English and held by 325 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The authors obtain their solutions as dynamic developments of all initial data sets, which are close, in a precise manner, to the flat initial data set corresponding to the Minkowski space-time. They thus establish the global dynamic stability of the latter
Mathematical aspects of nonlinear dispersive equations( Book )

14 editions published in 2007 in English and held by 294 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This collection of new and original papers on mathematical aspects of nonlinear dispersive equations includes both expository and technical papers that reflect a number of recent advances in the field. The expository papers describe the state of the art and research directions. The technical papers concentrate on a specific problem and the related analysis and are addressed to active researchers. The book deals with many topics that have been the focus of intensive research and, in several cases, significant progress in recent years, including hyperbolic conservation laws, Schrodinger operators
The evolution problem in general relativity by Sergiu Klainerman( Book )

15 editions published between 2001 and 2011 in English and held by 244 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"The global aspects of the problem of evolution equations in general relativity are examined. Central to the work is a revisit of the proof of the global stability of Minkowski space, as presented by Christodoulou and Klainerman (1993). The focus, therefore, is on a new self-contained proof of the main part of that result which concerns the full solution of the radiation problem in vacuum for arbitrary asymptotic flat initial data sets. While technical motivation is clearly and systematically provided for this proof, many important related concepts and results, some well established, others new, unfold along the way." "A comprehensive bibliography and index complete this important monograph, aimed at researchers and graduate students in mathematics, mathematical physics, and physics in the area of general relativity."--Jacket

Global existence for spherically symmetric Yang-Mills fields on 3+1 space-time dimensions by Pedro Paulo S Schirmer( Book )

1 edition published in 1990 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

We prove global existence for any initial data which is sufficiently small in a specified energy norm and which is spherically symmetric in the sense of principal bundles. We consider initial data which will lead bounded solutions near the central line. This establishes a kind of weak regularity result at this central line. The proof of the global result is achieved using a gauge invariant formalism and weighted Sobolev norms introduced by S. Klainerman. They not only provide global existence, but also sharp asymptotic behaviour of the solutions in time. The initial data considered here does not include Coulomb charges but includes dipole radiation, a situation which cannot be accommodated in the framework of the conformal method. A new class of solutions, which have not been considered before, is covered then by the theorem

Global nonlinear stability of the minkowski space (pms-41) by Demetrios Christodoulou( )

2 editions published between 1994 and 2014 in English and held by 0 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The aim of this work is to provide a proof of the nonlinear gravitational stability of the Minkowski space-time. More precisely, the book offers a constructive proof of global, smooth solutions to the Einstein Vacuum Equations, which look, in the large, like the Minkowski space-time. In particular, these solutions are free of black holes and singularities. The work contains a detailed description of the sense in which these solutions are close to the Minkowski space-time, in all directions. It thus provides the mathematical framework in which we can give a rigorous derivation of the laws of
