Transcript of hearings concerning United States government disposition of Chippewa lands by United States( )
in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide
Carbon copy (631 p., less p. 82-95 which are missing) of typed manuscript of hearings held at Bemidji, Cass Lake, and Red Lake Agency (all in Minnesota) by a subcommittee of the U.S. Senate's Committee on Indian Affairs. The subcommittee was charged to investigate allegations that the United States government had, at various times, violated agreements made with Minnesota Ojibwe (Chippewa) peoples pursuant to the Congressional act of January 14, 1889. Most claims involved the disposition of Indian lands (including swamp lands) ceded to the government in trust and from which the Indians claimed they had not received appropriate compensation. There was also disagreement between the Red Lake band and other bands concerning allotments and other compensation
