In addition to their everyday problems they must contend with personal conflicts, love, loneliness, creativity, and expectations. Max, the leader of the troupe, is a workaholic director who abandoned his family to build his career and is forced to confront the daughter he deserted. Amid political corruption and police brutality, Max's elderly colleague Enrique leads a protest for unpaid old-age pensions. The pensioners succeed in their demands, only to learn from a government official that no money is available to pay them. The Brazilian dancer Fulo worries about her daughter back home, and is driven to succeed so that she can bring her daughter from Rio de Janeiro

1987/88, nach seiner Rückkehr aus dem Exil, hat Fernando Solanas den Spielfilm "Sur" realisiert. Ein Schlüsselwerk des jüngeren politischen Kinos genausosehr wie ein melancholischer Liebesfilm. Die Zeit der Finsternis in Argentinien wird noch einmal durchquert und damit auch ein stückweit bewältigt. Floréal (Miguel Angel Sola), die Hauptfigur in diesem Film, ist einer, der im Land geblieben war, der verschleppt wurde und die fünf Jahre in Gefangenschaft in Patagonien überlebt hat. Er kehrt nach dem Ende der Diktatur heim zu Rosi (Suso Pecoraro), seiner Frau, und zu seinem sechsjährigen Sohn, den er erst noch kennenlernen muss. Statt der Freude über die langersehnte Rückkehr überkommt ihn die Angst vor dem Wiedersehen nach all den Jahren. Die Geschichte hat Spuren hinterlassen, im privaten wie im öffentlichen Raum. Der Schmerz der Trennungen sitzt tief. "Sur" lässt diese Spuren aufscheinen und die Hoffnungen aufleben, die Floréal in den Tagesanbruch begleiten und sein Gesicht mit jenem seiner Frau in einer wortlosen Einstellung wieder eins werden lassen.
