Commission, signed by Lt. Col. John Young, of Joseph Johnson to raise a unit of Mohegan Indian scouts, August 2, 1757. Accompanied by orders to Johnson to scout from Fort Edward to Fort Ticonderoga and rejoin the regiment at Fort William Henry. On the document is a letter of Johnson, August 19, 1757, to his wife describing life in camp and detailing the sickness of some of his fellow scouts. The item has been silked.
