Christopher Hawkins was born in 1764 at North Providence, Rhode Island, the son of Hesabiah Hawkins. At the age of twelve, he was apprenticed to a man at Providence to learn the trade of tanner. After about a year, he ran away and enlisted as a privateer. He married Dorcas Whipple, daughter of William Whipple of Smithfield, Rhode Island, ca. 1784. They had six daughters and a son. The family migrated to Norway, Herkimer County, New York, ca. 1786; later moved to Fairfield, Herkimer County, and in 1791 to Newport, Herkimer County, New York. He died at Newport in 1837

Levi Hanford, son of Levi Hanford and Elizabeth Carter, was born 19 Sep 1759 in Norwalk, Connecticut. He served in the military and was a prisoner of war during the Revolutionary War. He married Mary Mead, daughter of John Mead, in 1782. They had 9 children. The family moved in 1808 from Norwalk, Connecticut to Walton, Delaware County, New York. Mary died there on 15 Sep 1847 and Levi died there on 19 Oct 1854
