"In November-December 1962, Senators Gale McGee, Frank Church, and Frank Moss fulfilled a southeast Asia study mission which took them to Samoa, Indonesia, Malaya, Laos, Vietnam, Philippines, Guam, Korea, and Taiwan. Over a period of 35 days, the study group traveled approximately 32,000 miles; conferred with heads of states and all strata of citizens of these countries; the Montagnards, or mountain people, of South Vietnam highlands; the communal villagers of Malaya and Korea; U.S. contract team personnel assisting in the development in these countries; and representatives of the Agency for International Development, the Peace Corps, American Foreign Service personnel, and the military ... In reporting to the President of the United States and to the Senate on the findings and impressions, the group is unanimously agreed that there can be no common solution or standardized procedures for carrying out our foreign assistance program in these lands"--P. 1
