Computer architecture a quantitative approach by John L Hennessy( Book )
146 editions published between 1989 and 2012 in 3 languages and held by 3,952 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
The era of seemingly unlimited growth in processor performance is over: single chip architectures can no longer overcome the performance limitations imposed by the power they consume and the heat they generate. Today, Intel and other semiconductor firms are abandoning the single fast processor model in favor of multi-core microprocessors--chips that combine two or more processors in a single package. In the fourth edition of Computer Architecture, the authors focus on this historic shift, increasing their coverage of multiprocessors and exploring the most effective ways of achieving parallelism as the key to unlocking the power of multiple processor architectures. Additionally, the new edition has expanded and updated coverage of design topics beyond processor performance, including power, reliability, availability, and dependability

"Hennessy's original research area was optimizing compilers. His research group at Stanford developed many of the techniques now in commercial use. In 1981, Hennessy started the MIPS project at Stanford with a handful of graduate students. After completing the project in 1984, he took a one-year sabbatical to co-found MIPS Computer Systems, which has since merged with Silicon Graphics. The RISC architecture developed at MIPS has been utilized by a number of companies including DEC, NEC, Siemens, Silicon Graphics, and Tandem. Hennessy's current research at Stanford focuses on the area of designing and exploiting multiprocessors. Most recently, he has been involved in the development of the DASH multiprocessor architecture."--Jacket

Engineering software as a service : an agile approach using cloud computing by Armando Fox( Book )
6 editions published between 2013 and 2014 in English and held by 19 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
A one-semester college course in software engineering focusing on cloud computing, software as a service (SaaS), and Agile development using Extreme Programming (XP). This book is neither a step-by-step tutorial nor a reference book. Instead, our goal is to bring a diverse set of software engineering topics together into a single narrative, help readers understand the most important ideas through concrete examples and a learn-by-doing approach, and teach readers enough about each topic to get them started in the field. Courseware for doing the work in the book is available as a virtual machine image that can be downloaded or deployed in the cloud. A free MOOC (massively open online course) at saas-class.org follows the book's content and adds programming assignments and quizzes. -- Provided by publisher
