Asymptotic approximations of integrals
by R Wong
(
Book
)
20 editions published between 1989 and 2001 in English and held by 438 WorldCat member libraries worldwide Asymptotic methods are frequently used in many branches of both pure and applied mathematics, and this classic text remains the most uptodate book dealing with one important aspect of this area, namely, asymptotic approximations of integrals. In Asymptotic Approximations of Integrals, all results are proved rigorously, and many of the approximation formulas are accompanied by error bounds. A thorough discussion on multidimensional integrals is given, and references are provided. The book contains the "distributional method," which is not available elsewhere. Most of the examples in this text come from concrete applications. Since its publication twelve years ago, significant developments have occurred in the general theory of asymptotic expansions, including smoothing of the Stokes phenomenon, uniform exponentially improved asymptotic expansions, and hyperasymptotics. These new concepts belong to the area now known as "exponential asymptotics." Expositions of these new theories are available in papers published in various journals, but not yet in book form. Audience: this book can be used either as a text for graduate students in mathematics, physics, and engineering or as a reference for research workers in these fields
Special functions : a graduate text
by Richard Beals
(
Book
)
13 editions published in 2010 in English and Undetermined and held by 281 WorldCat member libraries worldwide "The subject of special functions is often presented as a collection of disparate results, which are rarely organised in a coherent way. This book answers the need for a different approach to the subject. The authors' main goals are to emphasise general unifying principles coherently and to provide clear motivation, efficient proofs, and original references for all of the principal results. The book covers standard material, but also much more, including chapters on discrete orthogonal polynomials and elliptic functions. The authors show how a very large part of the subject traces back to two equations the hypergeometric equation and the confluent hypergeometric equation and describe the various ways in which these equations are canonical and special. Providing ready access to theory and formulas, this book serves as an ideal graduatelevel textbook as well as a convenient reference"

Motivation a biobehavioural approach
by Roderick Wong
(
Book
)
1 edition published in 2000 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide Provides the reader with an understanding of why individuals exhibit certain behaviors, and what causes these actions. Roderick Wong presents an analysis of motivated behavior such as sexual activity, parental behavior, food selection, and fear or aggression, from a biological perspective. Each chapter focuses on the individual systems underlying specific motivational states that result in motivated acts. The author discusses similarities, differences, and integration between these motivational systems throughout the volume. Using a framework derived from research and theory from animal behavior and comparative psychology, he analyzes relevant issues in human motivation such as mate choice, nepotism, attachment and independence, sensationseeking, obesity, and parentoffspring conflict
