Form, color, illumination : Suzan Frecon painting by Josef Helfenstein ( Book )
12 editions published in 2008 in English and held by 244 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
"This publication is the first major exploration of the works of American abstract painter and watercolorist Suzan Frecon (b. 1941), critically acclaimed for her sensitive arrangement of color, form, and texture and for the philosophical resonance of her art. By restricting herself to nonrepresentational forms, earth-based colors, and, in the case of her watercolors, "found" pieces of paper, Frecon achieves an unequaled sense of balance and openness in her work. The book features ten oil paintings and thirty watercolors dating from the late 1990s to 2007."--BOOK JACKET
Ferdinand Hodler : a symbolist vision by Ferdinand Hodler ( Book )
4 editions published in 2008 in English and held by 180 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
"Swiss painter Ferdinand Hodler (1853-1918) is one of Europe's most influential artistic personalities, whose work bridged the styles of Realism, Symbolism, and the modern period. Despite initial praise, his extensive oeuvre has not always been an object of admiration; its diversity and originality, however, deserve international re-evaluation. Hodler's Symbolist vision of a large, harmonious union of man and nature is expressed both in unique and monumental figurative compositions, and in stylized landscapes of sheer mountain peaks and glinting lakes. Twenty-five years since the last retrospective, this fresh and extensive assessment of Hodler's partings invites the viewer to explore his work anew; on the one hand it represents a unique view of turn-of-the-century art and Symbolism, on the other it demonstrates a powerful and genuine interest in the depiction of man."--BOOK JACKET

Sean Scully : Retrospektive by Sean Scully ( Book )

Sean Scully was born in 1945 in Dublin and grew up in London. He became a US citizen in 1983. Today, he is resident in New York, Barcelona and Munich. Under the influence of Mark Rothko, he abandoned representational painting at an early stage. Ever since, the direct language of the brush, shapes that are exclusively geometrical figures and a deft play with colours that ranges from delicate nuances and glazes to powerful and direct applications of colours has been the essence of Scully's work. Although his pictures were initially strictly two-dimensional, they began to extend into the third dimension in the 1980s. He paints on box-shaped objects with projections and recesses. Today, he often works on metal plates, sometimes combining them with canvases. This book focuses on his current output

Giovanni Segantini by Beat Stutzer ( Book )
16 editions published in 1999 in 3 languages and held by 60 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
"The artist Giovanni Segantini was a leading member of the European avant-garde of his day. He was hailed as an 'innovator', a 'prophet' and a 'revolutionary': in an obituary one critic called him a "Secession in his own right". His work was to be seen in public and private collections alike, and had a major effect on art in Europe at the time. Even the Futurists cited him as a role-model." "This is the first ever Segantini monograph in English. It offers the public an opportunity to see important paintings and drawings by this artist, including his famous triptych La vita - La natura - La morte (Live - Nature - Death). With in-depth essays on the artist's oeuvre - from his early genre paintings, influenced by Realism, right up to his symbolic depictions of Nature in a Divisionist style - this publication is an up-to-date, comprehensive monograph on Giovanni Segantini."--BOOK JACKET
