1 edition published in 1995 in English and held by 3 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This article considers the terms on which an employee may retire early in various European countries, looking at both the terms available under social security programmes and typical practice in employer-sponsored pension plans. It also considers some of the demographic and economic factors giving rise to changes in normal retirement ages and the extent to which early retirement provision has become more important and of greater concern to European employers. A summary of the main features of the social security system and typical private practice in 17 European states is given in an appendix. The paper highlights that there is still a considerable variety in the normal retirement ages in the European countries.--SCAD summary
