Full length studio portrait of Hairy Chin of the Sioux, standing in front of a painted backdrop between a plant and a prop wall. The photograph was taken on July 4th, 1889 during the meeting of the Constitutional Convention at Bismarck, North Dakota. Hairy Chin is dressed as Uncle Sam to lead the parade. He wears a top hat, his hair down, a beard, a cloth shirt, a jacket with a star pinned on the breast, striped trousers, and socks. He rests his right hand on a closed umbrella that has been tied with strips of cloth to make it appear striped. Printed on the verso: a description of the Sioux who appeared in the parade and how Hairy Chin led as Uncle Sam. The history is accompanied by an image of photograph D. F. Barry and his stamp: "D. F. Barry, Photographer of Noted Indians, 1312 Tower Avenue, Superior, Wisconsin."
