King Abdallah and Palestine : a territorial ambition by Joseph Nevo ( Book )
10 editions published in 1996 in English and held by 290 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
When in 1921, ostensibly on his way to capture Damascus, Amir Abdallah of the Hijaz pitched his tent in Amman, the British created the 'Amirate of Transjordan' for him to rule provided he stay put. A barren and desolate region east of the Jordan river, it lacked natural resources and offered no economic assets. While ideologically he remained dedicated to the 'Greater Syria' scheme, in practical terms Abdallah soon concentrated on Palestine alone in an expansionist drive that was to underpin the legitimacy of the kingdom he craved and lend lustre to the crown he coveted
Jordan in the Middle East : the making of a pivotal state, 1948-1988 ( Book )
6 editions published between 1994 and 1995 in English and held by 203 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
"This collection of articles attempts to assess Jordan's position in the region in the light of its long quest for legitimacy, both as a state and as a Hashemite monarchy. The editors of the volume feel that developments since 1967 and particularly during the last decade have weakened the tendencies previously prevailing among various elements in the Arab world to question Jordan's legitimacy. Moreover, it is suggested that Jordan's position in the inter-Arab system has considerably improved."--BOOK JACKET
King Hussein and the evolution of Jordan's perception of a political settlement with Israel, 1967-1988 by Joseph Nevo ( Book )
6 editions published in 2006 in English and held by 150 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
"This book follows the evolution of Jordan's new perception through textual analysis of the public statements made by Jordan's leaders between 1967 and 1988. Jordan's demands from Israel and what its leaders were willing to give in return are analysed, and the constant and changing components in Jordanian viewpoints identified. The major conclusion is that even though Jordan failed to obtain its declared goals, the contribution of King Hussein to the transformation of the conflict from military antagonism to seeking a politically-oriented solution, was invaluable."--BOOK JACKET
