Chiefly ancestors of the author's parents, Rev. Charles Chauncey and Mrs. Adeline Eliza Dana Darling. Charles Chauncey Darling (1799-1887) was born at New Haven, Connecticut, the son of Samuel Darling (1751-1842) and Clarinda Ely Darling (1759-1847). He graduated from Yale in 1820 and from the Theological Seminary at Princeton, New Jersey, in 1823. He married Adeline Eliza Dana in 1829. They had two sons, 1830-1833. He died at the home of his son at Utica, New York, and was buried at Hartford, Connecitucut. Adeline Eliza Dana (1798-1882) was born at Boston, Massachusetts, the daughter of William Dana (1767-1799) and Eliza Davis Dana (1778-1806). After the death of her parents, she lived with her aunt, Mrs. William Ely of Hartford, Connecticut, until her marriage. She died while on a visit to Saratoga Springs, New York, and was buried at New Haven, Connecticut
