Der zweitälteste Bach-Sohn genoss bis an sein Lebensende den höchsten Respekt seiner Zeitgenossen. Neben seinen Qualitäten als Virtuose und Komponist hatte er auch mit seiner Veröffentlichung des "Versuchs über die wahre Art das Clavier zu spielen" eine der wichtigsten Musikschriften des 18. Jahrhunderts verfasst. Seine über 50 Instrumentalkonzerte, die hauptsächlich in den adligen und bürgerlichen Salons in Berlin und Potsdam erklangen, fanden beim Publikum höchste Anerkennung. Diese CD enthält je ein Flöten-, Violoncello- und Oboenkonzert des lange als Hofcembalist Friedrichs des Großen Tätigen, darunter das erst 2001 in Kiew wiederentdeckte Flötenkonzert D-Dur Wq 13

Um für sein Leipziger Collegium musicum ein größeres Repertoire an Cembalokonzerten zu haben, griff Bach auf frühere Konzerte für andere Instrumente zurück: deren Originalversion ist in den meisten Fällen nicht mehr erhalten. Der belgische Meisteroboist Marcel Ponseele ("gegenwärtig der beste Barockoboist weltweit" The Gramophone) und das Ensemble Il Gardellino stellen einige Rückübertragungen dieser Cembalokonzerte für Oboe bzw. Oboe d'amore vor, darunter die Konzerte BWV 1055 und BWV 1060. In der Rekonstruktion für Oboe stellen diese Konzerte eine willkommene und reizvolle Bereicherung des barocken Konzertrepertoires für Oboisten dar. Als kleine "Zugabe" erklingt ein Arrangement des Mahler-Liedes "Ich bin der Welt abhanden gekommen". - "Marcel Ponseele überzeugt auf seiner selbst gebauten Barockoboe nicht nur durch technische Souveränität und eine unglaubliche dynamische Differenzierungsfähigkeit.
