"In her fourth book of poetry, Michelle Boisseau grapples with a legacy of misery and longing that is both personal and collective, circling first around a reckoning of her ancestors' history' of slave-holding in Virginia for as many as two hundred years. Then under her unflinching gaze, borders between the personal and universal bleed together."--Jacket

Crying wolf by Alysse Hotz( )

2 editions published in 2010 in English and held by 3 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Crying Wolf is a collection of 39 poems which use images of embodiment to explore the relations of internal and external psychic landscapes. The poems very from short lyrics written in free verse to a series of dramatic monologues that investigate the tensions between popular culture and traditional myth. Using everyday subjects and experience as its major thematic principle, the collection attempts to establish the mortification of the individual which is inherent in the practices of daily ritual and habit. Formal variations between one-line stanzas, staggered couplets, tercets, quatrains, and varying length stanzas provide stylistic texture throughout the manuscript to signal the disjuncture between the internal self in relation to the external world in which the first person persona operates

Its themes and motifs include the natural world, insects and their life cycles, horror and genre, myth, the changing of light in the day, and the passing of the seasons. The collection concludes with revelations about reality and the role our myths and stories play in shielding us from our true fears—our eminent mortality
Road/Map/Canvas by Sameer Joshi( )

1 edition published in 2015 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

he poems in this thesis explore the connection between imagination, space and belonging. Actual landscapes provoke imaginative responses. A small town in South Peru becomes the focus of desire, belonging and nostalgia. The landscape of South India becomes an imaginary home, while more familiar cities are seen through lenses of loss, regret, doubt and reconciliation. A section in the thesis focuses on the purely imaginative spaces depicted in paintings. These spaces evoke humor, promise and fear. The title "Road/Map/Canvas" unites the concept of places that are real and perceived, constructed and imagined. Apprehending real and imagined places alike through an artist's eye, this thesis makes the case that places are not immutable givens. They are instead loci of potential that the imaginative perception can unlock and re-create; they are "homes" that are "yet unknown."
