Monet and the Mediterranean by Joachim Pissarro( Book )

11 editions published between 1997 and 1999 in English and held by 872 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

First invited by Pierre-Auguste Renoir to the Italian Riviera in 1883, Monet over the next decades crafted several magnificent series of works, remarkably different from the paintings that had established his reputation in the North. Here, assembled for the first time in its entirety, is the audaciously colorful group of works that he executed on the Italian and French Rivieras in 1884 and 1888, and in Venice in 1908. Arresting in their stunning color, dazzling light effects, and the sheer beauty of the land and the sea they depict, these paintings address in a new language the artist's ability to stretch his own pictorial boundaries. Now available in paperback, this new look at Monet accompanied the highly successful exhibition at the Kimbell Art Museum and the Brooklyn Museum in 1997

Wild art by David Carrier( Book )

8 editions published between 2013 and 2014 in English and Dutch and held by 404 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Wild Art is an incredibly brash and current collection of over 300 extraordinary artworks that are too offbeat, outrageous, kitschy, quirky, or funky for the formal art world. From pimped cars, graffiti, flash mobs, and burlesque acts, to extreme body art, ice sculpture, light shows, and carnivals, the works featured here are variously moving, funny, or shocking - and guaranteed to elicit a reaction. Authors David Carrier and Joachim Pissarro have studied alternative and underground art cultures for years. Here, they've compiled the ultimate collection of creative works that celebrate the beauty and art in anything and everything, challenging the reader's perception of what is and what isn't art

Humble and colossal," as his friend Cézanne described him, Camille Pissarro is at once the most important and the least familiar of the leading Impressionist painters. As a mentor to that group, which he helped to convene, Pissarro was responsible for drafting the statutes of the artists' cooperative that launched the famous Impressionist exhibitions, which were the first to take art outside the academic confines of Paris' salon exhibitions; he was also the only painter to participate in all eight of those landmark shows, from 1874 to 1886, and was the first painter to develop and sustain the plein air practice for which the Impressionists are famed. This volume presents Pissarro as one of the great pioneers of modern art, appraising his career through five thematic and chronological chapters that offer a tour of his preferred landscapes and cities: "On the Road to Impressionism," "Louveciennes-London-Louveciennes 1869-72," "Pontoise Revisited 1872-82," "Eragny Landscapes 1884-1903" and "City Views." It includes essays by some of the most renowned Pissarro scholars: Richard R. Brettell, who writes on the artist's involvement with anarchism; Joachim Pissarro (one of the authors of the Pissarro catalogue raisonné) on Monet and Pissarro's relationship in the 1890s; and Guillermo Solana on the motif of the road in Pissarro. 00Exhibition: Obra Social 'La Caixa', CaixaForum, Barcelona, Spain (15.10.2013-26.01.2014)

Evan Gruzis : dark systems by Evan Gruzis( Book )

5 editions published in 2008 in English and held by 78 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Evan Gruzis' deceptively photographic-seeming ink paintings feature palm trees, digital clocks, 1980s graphic-design tropes, ghosts and strange texts, channeling a certain Hollywood Hills malaise via Ed Ruscha. With the sardonic wit of Brett Easton Ellis and a unique ink manipulation technique that keeps viewers guessing, Gruzis' work continues to haunt, like a half-remembered name or an almost-tangible word: what you see is often only half-there, or sometimes mockingly not there at all. This first monograph is published in conjunction with the artist's first solo exhibition in New York - held at Deitch Projects in December 2008. In it, more than 60 of Gruzis' complex ink paintings are reproduced, prefaced by an introduction by former Museum of Modern Art, New York, curator Joachim Pissarro."--Jacket
