Petition addressed to President James Knox Polk from the General Assembly of Iowa, dated January 24, 1868, recommending Thomas Coxe (?) for service as a second lieutenant in the Dragoon Service. It is signed by Senator Augustus Dodge and 13 other members of the General Assembly, including Wilson, Thomas, Hastings, Preston, Decatur, Trowbridge, Bangs, Hampton, Bates, McClure, Clarke, Williams, Rockwell, et al. A note at the bottom of the leaf from M. H. Clark to Hon. Shepherd Leffler reads: "I might have obtained the signatures of all our Democrats in the State but deemed it unnecessary as you will be ... the most influential and active Democrats of the State have signed this recommendation."
