Employing sorcery, he brings the artificial man to life, endowing him with human emotions. Famulus, Loew's evil assistant, manages to take control of the Golem, commanding it to perform sordid criminal acts culminating in the kidnapping of the Rabbi's daughter Miriam. The monster, outraged, rebels and a rampage ensues

"In the Jewish ghetto in 16th century Prague, the community leader and astrologer Rabbi Löw (Steinrück) foresees doom for his people. Soon after, the Emperor Luhois (Gebühr) issues an expulsion order to the people of the ghetto to leave the city. In an attempt to save his people, Löw creates a forbidding clay golem (Wegener) that he brings to life with the assistance of a demon spirit and an amulet placed in the creature's chest. Initially the Golem does nothing but good (including saving the Emperor's life) but after Löw's assistant tries to use it for his own purpose and subsequently attempts to remove the amulet, the enraged creature embarks on a trail of destruction which threatens the whole community ...
