"Presents seventeen design projects, both built and unbuilt, and twelve essays that attempt to illuminate and illustrate the conceptual activity of blurring. The work from this period begins in 1988, with a project for the Guardiola House in Cadiz, Spain, and continues through 1998, with the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe in Berline. Also shown in this monograph, with photographs and Eisenman's signature drawings, are the Aronoff Center for Design and Art at the University of Cincinnati and the Greater Columbus Convention Center, both in Ohio; The Nunotani Headquarters building in Tokyo; the Max Reinhardt Haus in Berlin; and the entry for the Church for the Year 2000 competition in Rome. The Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) New Campus Center Competition Fonds contains 20 presentation panels which document projects proposed by 4 of 5 competition finalists (Eisenman Architects, Zaha Hadid, Helmut Jahn/Werner Sobek, and Kazuyo Sejima + Ryue Nishizawa/SANAA). The Fonds also contains 8 models, which document 3 proposed projects (Eisenman, Jahn/Sobek and Sejima/Nishizawa). The panels and models of the Fonds were presented at the IIT College of Architecture in Sept. 1997 at a symposium where the finalists' proposals were submitted to the public, and/or at the Art Institute of Chicago between May 1st and July 25th, 1998 in an exhibition entitled "A New Campus Center: The IIT Competition". "Peter Eisenman will present the lecture 'The Discipline of Architecture' on Knowlton Hall's Big Stairs at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 17. The lecture is free and open to the public. Eisenman is an internationally recognized architect and educator. The principal of Eisenman Architects, he has designed large-scale housing and urban design projects, innovative facilities for educational institutions, and a series of inventive private houses. His current projects include the six-building City of Culture of Galicia in Santiago de Compostela, Spain, and a large condominium housing block in Milan, Italy. The first major public building designed by Eisenman was Ohio State's Wexner Center for the Arts. Eisenman is the Charles Gwathmey Professor in Practice at the Yale University School of Architecture, and has taught at Cambridge University, Harvard University, Princeton University, The Ohio State University and The Cooper Union. ..."--Knowlton School website

Documents the activities involved in the organization and realization of the IFCCA Prize Competition for the Design of Cities, an ideas competition organized by the International Foundation for the Canadian Centre for Architecture. The fonds documents the initial brainstorming which led to the idea for the Prize Competition, the fund raising, administrative, publicity and logistical activities associated with the Prize, as well as the exhibitions and colloquium which resulted from the Prize Competition.
