The Internationale by Peter Miller( Visual )

7 editions published between 2000 and 2012 in English and held by 219 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This documentary film recreates the history, memory, and meanings of a song that has shaped the imagination and practice of internationalism for over a century and whose continuing popularity is a sign of "globalization from below." Eugène Pottier wrote the original French verses in the aftermath of the Paris Commune in 1871, and seventeen years later Pierre Degeyter put the words to music. A remarkable collection of sound recordings, film footage, and still images trace how the song has changed, developed, and sometimes stagnated in specific historical and political contexts. The contested meanings of the song are discussed, along with its use in a globalizing world shaped by migration, diaspora, and multi-national activism, to negotiate rather than suppress differences--of gender, ethnicity, and sexuality--that compose our common humanity

When American folk legend Woody Guthrie died in 1967 at the age of 55, he left behind a trove of more than one thousand sets of complete lyrics with no music. In 1995, his daughter Nora approached English singer-songwriter and activist Billy Bragg and about the possibility of bringing these unheard songs to life by setting them to new music. Wilco came aboard soon after, and in 1998 Mermaid Avenue was released to critical acclaim, receiving a Grammy nomination for Best Contemporary Folk Album

Don't try this at home by Billy Bragg( Recording )

31 editions published between 1991 and 2008 in 4 languages and held by 126 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

One wouldn't imagine that a died-in-red-wool socialist agitator and spiritual offspring of Woody Guthrie would be able to make serious inroads in modern-rock radio, but Billy Bragg did indeed slip onto some playlists with 1991's Don't Try This at Home. Working with a full band (the Smiths' Johnny Marr and R.E.M.'s Peter Buck and Michael Stipe are among the guests) with bits of brass and strings shading the arrangements, Bragg came up with a surplus of hooky songs highlighted by the minor hit "Sexuality." Conflict both personal ("You Woke Up My Neighborhood," "Accident Waiting to Happen") and political ("Everywhere," "God's Footballer") intertwine among these 16 songs in customary Bragg fashion. Ultimately, Home stands as one of the Brit firebrand's most accessible efforts
