James Hook (1839-1905) was a direct descendant in the seventh generation, born in Carroll County, Ohio. James served in the Civil War between 1862 and 1865, and moved to Wapello County, Iowa in late 1865. He married Virginia Elder in 1867; after her death, he married again but without issue. Descendants and relatives lived in Maryland, Virginia, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Iowa and elsewhere.
