Das Wüstenblues-Projekt des Pianisten Joachim Kühn live mit Big Band. "Ständig auf der Suche nach der Vertiefung und Erweiterung seiner musikalischen Erfahrungen, formierte der Pianist Joachim Kühn vor vier Jahren ein Trio mit Majid Bekkas und Ramon Lopez. Bekkas, ein Musiker aus Marokko, spielt die Guembri, ein tieflagiges Lauteninstrument, sowie die arabische Laute Oud und das afrikanische "Daumenklavier" Kalimba. Schlagzeuger Ramon Lopez aus Spanien bringt neben dem klassischen "Drum-Kit" auch exotische Perkussionsinstrumente wie Tabla und Cajón in den Triosound mit ein. In dichter Interaktion entsteht ein Klang fernab des konventionellen Jazz-Pianotrios, der zugleich von der spirituellen Kraft der Gnawa-Musik beflügelt wird. 2008 reiste Joachim Kühn mit diesem Trio in die nordafrikanische Wüste, um dort gemeinsam mit einheimischen Musikern zu spielen und das Album "Out of the Desert" aufzunehmen. Aus der Transformation dieser Erlebnisse in den Kontext einer großen Besetzung entstand das Projekt mit der HR Big Band, das Joachim Kühn im November 2010 beim Jazzfest Berlin präsentierte" (dradio.de). 'Am Abend vorher hatte ich noch mit Rabih Abou-Khalil in Lausanne gespielt', so Kühn. 'Es war eine anstrengende Reise, ich hatte nicht geschlafen und war einfach ziemlich müde.
