Befriending death : over 100 essayists on living and dying. by Michael C Vocino( Book )
1 edition published in 2015 in English and held by 4 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
"It's not easy to speak about death in our culture. As children of revolution, we think of our country as young, energetic, and future oriented. Our ideals of progress and vigor seem contradicted by the concept of death. But the silence about death in America is a lost opportunity for people to find insight and support in walking "that lonesome valley" In Befriending Death, over 100 writers respond, in one page each, to one question: In the face of death, how do you find meaning and fulfillment in life? Penned from people from a variety of backgrounds, the essays take death seriously and openly and discuss how the authors find meaning in life. This chance for a rare sharing of views on a truly profound subject has attracted commentators who are deeply religious and those who are not religious, noted authors and people who have never published a word, people celebrated by the world and people ignored by the world. As they are all equal in their mortality, they are equal in striving for an authentic existence and an honest description of what for them constitutes fulfillment. While each essay in Befriending Death is unique, together they present a tapestry of courage, struggle, and insight. At a time when we are often overwhelmed by the eagerness of people to provide their opinions on politics and sports, here is a rare opportunity to hear people share their most profound views on life and death."

Teaching in the inclusive classroom : the multiplier effects of biochemical, sociological, and psychological accumulations, and the implications for equity by Karen Stein( Book )
1 edition published in 2004 in English and held by 2 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
Children in the classroom often manifest multidimensional effects from biochemical, sociological and/or psychological impacts that are accumulating at a rapid rate worldwide. When these impacts combine in an inclusive classroom, a multiplier effect may occur within the individual child, within the classroom, and in the community at large. A review of current literature reveals that while these impacts are on the rise, teachers are expected to handle this increasing complexity in inclusive classrooms. The trend has been to isolate and study these impacts individually. The practice of teaching suggests, however, that these specialized studies must be reintegrated to understand the synergistic effects of these impacts in combination in the classroom. Using a grounded theory approach, teachers from public, private, and alternative schools were surveyed. The responses were widely divergent, indicating little common understanding of what "inclusive classroom" and "teaching for equity" means, and little or no recognition or understanding of individual impacts and appropriate responses to them. Fatigue, lack of time, uncertainty, and the need for help and more study were primary factors

Find meaning make meaning by Karen Stein( )

Employing the designer William Morris as a source of inspiration, this project seeks to explore the call for nature and beauty as a part of our lives. Moreover, it interweaves the necessity for experience of the sensual world (the five senses) with the cerebral world (a requisite to igniting the internal imagination), a concept embodied in the form of the book. It advocates a redefining of the book as an imagination sculpture (the external and the internal) reflecting this new definition
