Dimension reduction of large-scale systems proceedings of a workshop held in Oberwolfach, Germany, October 19-25, 2003 by Peter Benner ( )
11 editions published in 2005 in English and held by 453 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
In the past decades, model reduction has become an ubiquitous tool in analysis and simulation of dynamical systems, control design, circuit simulation, structural dynamics, CFD, and many other disciplines dealing with complex physical models. The aim of this book is to survey some of the most successful model reduction methods in tutorial style articles and to present benchmark problems from several application areas for testing and comparing existing and new algorithms. As the discussed methods have often been developed in parallel in disconnected application areas, the intention of the mini-
Production factor mathematics by Martin Grötschel ( )
11 editions published in 2010 in English and held by 391 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
Mathematics as a production factor or driving force for innovation? Those, who want to know and understand why mathematics is deeply involved in the design of products, the layout of production processes and supply chains will find this book an indispensable and rich source. Describing the interplay between mathematical and engineering sciences the book focusses on questions like How can mathematics improve to the improvement of technological processes and products? What is happening already? Where are the deficits? What can we expect for the future? 19 articles written by mixed teams of autho

Control and optimization with differential-algebraic constraints ( Book )
4 editions published in 2012 in English and held by 75 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
Differential-algebraic equations are the most natural way to mathematically model many complex systems in science and engineering. Once the model is derived, it is important to optimize the design parameters and control it in the most robust and efficient way to maximize performance. This book presents the latest theory and numerical methods for the optimal control of differential-algebraic equations. The following features are presented in a readable fashion so the results are accessible to the widest audience: the most recent theory, written by leading experts from a number of academic and nonacademic areas and departments; several state-of-the-art numerical methods; and real-world applications

3 editions published in 2012 in English and held by 20 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
The present volume contains a collection of original research articles and expository contributions on recent developments in operator theory and its multifaceted applications. They cover a wide range of themes from the IWOTA 2010 conference held at the TU Berlin, Germany, including spectral theory, function spaces, mathematical system theory, evolution equations and semigroups, and differential and difference operators. The book encompasses new trends and various modern topics in operator theory, and serves as a useful source of information to mathematicians, scientists and engineers

Perturbation theory for matrix equations by M Konstantinov ( )
3 editions published in 2003 in English and held by 10 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
The book is devoted to the perturbation analysis of matrix equations. The importance of perturbation analysis is that it gives a way to estimate the influence of measurement and/or parametric errors in mathematical models together with the rounding errors done in the computational process. The perturbation bounds may further be incorporated in accuracy estimates for the solution computed in finite arithmetic. This is necessary for the development of reliable computational methods, algorithms and software from the viewpoint of modern numerical analysis. In this book a general perturbation theory for matrix algebraic equations is presented. Local and non-local perturbation bounds are derived for general types of matrix equations as well as for the most important equations arising in linear algebra and control theory. A large number of examples, tables and figures is included in order to illustrate the perturbation techniques and bounds. Key features: & bull; The first book in this field & bull; Can be used by a variety of specialists & bull; Material is self-contained & bull; Results can be used in the development of reliable computational algorithms & bull; A large number of examples and graphical illustrations are given & bull; Written by prominent specialists in the field
