Sein erstes Buch schrieb er 1977, während er sich von einem Autounfall erholte. Seitdem hat Dennis L. McKiernan über zwanzig Fantasy-Romane verfasst. Er lebt mit seiner Frau in Tuscon, Arizona und ist ein leidenschaftlicher Taucher und Motorradfahrer
