Free probability theory(
Book
)
8 editions published between 1996 and 1997 in English and held by 183 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
Free probability theory is a highly noncommutative probability theory, with independence based on free products instead of tensor products. The theory models random matrices in the large N limit and operator algebra free products. It has led to a surge of new results on the von Neumann algebras of free groups. This is a volume of papers from a workshop on Random Matrices and Operator Algebra Free Products, held at The Fields Institute for Research in the Mathematical Sciences in March 1995. Over the last few years, there has been much progress on the operator algebra and noncommutative probability sides of the subject. New links with the physics of masterfields and the combinatorics of noncrossing partitions have emerged. Moreover there is a growing free entropy theory. The idea of this workshop was to bring together people working in all these directions and from an even broader free products area where future developments might lead

Free probability and operator algebras by
D. V Voiculescu(
Book
)
11 editions published in 2016 in English and Undetermined and held by 61 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
Free probability is a probability theory dealing with variables having the highest degree of noncommutativity, an aspect found in many areas (quantum mechanics, free group algebras, random matrices etc). Thirty years after its foundation, it is a wellestablished and very active field of mathematics. Originating from Voiculescu's attempt to solve the free group factor problem in operator algebras, free probability has important connections with random matrix theory, combinatorics, harmonic analysis, representation theory of large groups, and wireless communication. These lecture notes arose from a masterclass in Münster, Germany and present the state of free probability from an operator algebraic perspective. This volume includes introductory lectures on random matrices and combinatorics of free probability (Speicher), free monotone transport (Shlyakhtenko), free group factors (Dykema), free convolution (Bercovici), easy quantum groups (Weber), and a historical review with an outlook (Voiculescu). In order to make it more accessible, the exposition features a chapter on basics in free probability, and exercises for each part. This book is aimed at master students to early career researchers familiar with basic notions and concepts from operator algebras

Exponentially dichotomous operators and applications by
C. V. M. van der Mee(
)
4 editions published in 2008 in English and held by 23 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
"In this monograph the natural evolution operators of autonomous firstorder differential equations with exponential dichotomy on an arbitrary Banach space are studied in detail. Characterizations of these socalled exponentially dichotomous operators in terms of their resolvents and additive and multiplicative perturbation results are given. The general theory of the first three chapters is then followed by applications to WienerHopf factorization and Riccati equations, transport equations, diffusion equations of indefinite SturmLiouville type, noncausal infinitedimensional linear continuoustime systems, and functional differential equations of mixed type." "The book is geared towards researchers and graduate students in (applied) functional analysis and mathematical systems theory."Jacket

The first of the annual Operator Theory conferences in Ti mi~oara held four years ago was a meeting of operator theory spe cialists from the National Institute for Scientific and Techni cal Creation in Bucharest and from the University of Timi~oara. Since then, the participation to these conferences has greatly increased, by being attended first by operator theorists from allover the country and (since 1978) by an increasing number of foreign mathematicians. Thus the 1980 Conference can be regarded as a truly international Operator Theory meeting, fifteen coun tries being represented at it. These conferences are conceived as a means to promote the cooperation between specialists in all areas of Operator Theory. Among the main topics in 1980 were: dilation theory, invariant subspaces, connections with the theory of cXalgebras, subnormal operators, multidimensional functional calculus etc. Though not included in this volume, we would like to mention that in 1980 some special sessions concerning other fields of Functional Ana lysis were organized at the Operator Theory conference. The research contracts of the Department of Mathematics of INCREST with the National Council for Sciences and Technoloa, y of Romania provided the means for developping the research activi ty in Functional Analysis; these contracts constitute the gene rous framework for these meetings

Ronald G Douglas(
)
2 editions published in 1986 in English and held by 3 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
The annual Operator Theory conferences, organized by the Department of Mathematics of INC REST and the University of Timi?oara, are intended to promote cooperation and exchange of information between specialists in all areas of operator theory. This volume consists of papers contributed by the participants of the 1984 Conference. They reflect a great variety of topics, dealt with by the modern operator theory, including very recent advances in the invariant subspace problem, subalgebras of operator algebras, hyponormal, Hankel and other special classes of operators, spectral decompositions, aspects of dilation theory and so on. The research contracts of the Department of Mathematics of INCREST with the National Council for Science and Technology of Romania provided the means for developing the research activity in mathematics; they represent the generous framework of these meetings, too. It is our pleasure to acknowledge the financial support of UNESCO which also contibuted to the success of this meeting. We are indebted to Professor Israel Gohberg for including these Proceedings in the OT Series and for valuable advice in the editing process. Birkhauser Verlag was very cooperative in publishing this volume. Mariana Bota, Camelia Minculescu and Rodica Stoenescu dealt with the difficult task of typing the whole manuscript using a Rank Xerox 860 word processor; we thank them for the excellent job they did
