Free probability theory(
Book
)
7 editions published between 1996 and 1997 in English and held by 184 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
Free probability theory is a highly noncommutative probability theory, with independence based on free products instead of tensor products. The theory models random matrices in the large N limit and operator algebra free products. It has led to a surge of new results on the von Neumann algebras of free groups. This is a volume of papers from a workshop on Random Matrices and Operator Algebra Free Products, held at The Fields Institute for Research in the Mathematical Sciences in March 1995. Over the last few years, there has been much progress on the operator algebra and noncommutative probability sides of the subject. New links with the physics of masterfields and the combinatorics of noncrossing partitions have emerged. Moreover there is a growing free entropy theory. The idea of this workshop was to bring together people working in all these directions and from an even broader free products area where future developments might lead

Exponentially dichotomous operators and applications by
C. V. M. van der Mee(
)
4 editions published in 2008 in English and held by 22 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
"In this monograph the natural evolution operators of autonomous firstorder differential equations with exponential dichotomy on an arbitrary Banach space are studied in detail. Characterizations of these socalled exponentially dichotomous operators in terms of their resolvents and additive and multiplicative perturbation results are given. The general theory of the first three chapters is then followed by applications to WienerHopf factorization and Riccati equations, transport equations, diffusion equations of indefinite SturmLiouville type, noncausal infinitedimensional linear continuoustime systems, and functional differential equations of mixed type." "The book is geared towards researchers and graduate students in (applied) functional analysis and mathematical systems theory."Jacket

6 editions published in 2005 in English and held by 5 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
Thisvolumecontainsaselectionofpapersinmodernoperatortheoryanditsapp cations. Most of them are directly related to lectures presented at the Fourteenth International Workshop on Operator Theory and its Applications (IWOTA 2003) held at the University of Cagliari, Italy, in the period of June 2427, 2003. The workshop, which was attended by 108 mathematicians including a number of PhD and postdoctoral students from 22 countries, presented eight special sessions on 1) control theory, 2) interpolation theory, 3) inverse scattering, 4) numerical estimates for operators, 5) numerical treatment of integral equations, 6) pseudodi?erential operators, 7) realizations and transformations of analytic functions and inde?nite inner product spaces, and 8) structured matrices. The program consisted of 19 plenary lectures of 45 minutes and 78 lectures of 30 minutes in four parallel sessions. The present volume re?ects the wide range and rich variety of topics p sentedanddiscussedattheworkshop,bothwithinandoutsidethespecialsessions. The papers deal with inverse scattering, numerical ranges, pseudodi?erential erators, numerical analysis, interpolation theory, multidimensional system theory, inde?nite inner products, spectral factorization, and stationary processes. SinceintheperiodthattheproceedingsofIWOTA2003werebeingprepared, Israel Gohberg, the president of the IWOTA steering committee, reached the age of 75, we decided to dedicate these proceedings to Israel Gohberg on the occasion of his 75th birthday. All of the authors of these proceedingshavejoined the editors and dedicated their papers to him as well

Advances in invariant subspaces and other results of operator theory : 9th International Conference on Operator Theory, Timișoara
and Herculane (Romania) June 414, 1984 by
Ronald G Douglas(
)
2 editions published in 1986 in English and held by 3 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
The annual Operator Theory conferences, organized by the Department of Mathematics of INC REST and the University of Timi?oara, are intended to promote cooperation and exchange of information between specialists in all areas of operator theory. This volume consists of papers contributed by the participants of the 1984 Conference. They reflect a great variety of topics, dealt with by the modern operator theory, including very recent advances in the invariant subspace problem, subalgebras of operator algebras, hyponormal, Hankel and other special classes of operators, spectral decompositions, aspects of dilation theory and so on. The research contracts of the Department of Mathematics of INCREST with the National Council for Science and Technology of Romania provided the means for developing the research activity in mathematics; they represent the generous framework of these meetings, too. It is our pleasure to acknowledge the financial support of UNESCO which also contibuted to the success of this meeting. We are indebted to Professor Israel Gohberg for including these Proceedings in the OT Series and for valuable advice in the editing process. Birkhauser Verlag was very cooperative in publishing this volume. Mariana Bota, Camelia Minculescu and Rodica Stoenescu dealt with the difficult task of typing the whole manuscript using a Rank Xerox 860 word processor; we thank them for the excellent job they did

Nonlinear parabolichyperbolic coupled systems and their attractors by
Yuming Qin(
)
3 editions published in 2008 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide
This book presents recent results concerning the global existence in time, the largetime behaviour, decays of solutions and the existence of global attractors for some nonlinear parabolichyperbolic coupled systems of evolutionary partial differential equations arising from physics, mechanics and material science, such as the compressible NavierStokes equations, thermo(visco)elastic systems and elastic systems. To keep the book as selfcontained as possible, the first chapter introduces to the needed results and tools from functional analysis, Sobolev spaces, differential and integral inequalities in analysis, and the theory of semigroups of linear operators and of global attractors

2006, Lund, Sweden by
I Gohberg(
)
2 editions published in 2009 in English and held by 0 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
This volume contains mainly the lectures delivered by the participants of the International Conference: Operator Theory, Analysis and Mathematical Physics OTAMP2006, held in Lund. As in the previous conferences of the OTAMP series, the main lectures presented an overview of current research which uses operator methods in analysis and mathematical physics. The topics of the Proceedings belong to various di?erent ?elds of mathem ical physics. Among others (but there is much more in this volume) the following subjects are presented: inverse spectral and scattering problems on graphs, review articles on quadratic Hamiltonians and BornOppenheimer approximations, cursive construction of the AblowitzLadik Hierarchy, spectral properties of ?nite di?erence and one (or two) dimensional Schro ¨dinger operators, eigenvalues and their estimates for Jacobi matrices and AharonovBohm operator. Most papers of the volume contain original material and were refereed by acknowledged experts. The Editors thank all the referees whose job helped to improve the clarity of the collected material. The Organizing Committee of the conference also thanks all session organizers for the interesting choice of the s enti?c programme and to all participants who delivered ?ne lectures. We greatly appreciate ?nancial support of the ESF programme SPECT, without whose nancial support the OTAMP2006 would never been so well organized.
