The nuclear many-body problem 2001 by Witold Nazarewicz ( Book )
10 editions published in 2002 in English and held by 92 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
An expert and illuminating review of the leading models of nuclear structure: effective field theories based on quantum chromodynamics; ab initio models based on Monte Carlo methods employing effective nucleon-nucleon interactions; diagonalization and the Monto Carlo shell model; non-relativistic and relativistic mean-field theory and its extensions; and symmetry-dictated approaches. Theoretical advances in major areas of nuclear structure are discussed: nuclei far from stability and radioactive ion beams; gamma ray spectroscopy; nuclear astrophysics and electroweak interactions in nuclei; electron scattering; nuclear superconductivity; superheavy elements. The interdisciplinary aspects of the many-body problem are also discussed. Recent experimental data are examined in light of state-of-the-art calculations. Recent advances in several broad areas of theoretical structure are covered, making the book ideal as a supplementary textbook

SPECTROSCOPY OF POINT DEFECTS ( Book )
1 edition published in 1963 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide
The absorption spectra of such impurities as oxygen, carbon, and nitrogen are being studied in the lattice of silicon and molecular vibrations are obtained at 9 microns, 12.2 microns, and 10.6 microns, respectively. High density defects, created by irradiation with fast neutrons, polarize the lattice and make it possible to observe the direct photon-phonon interaction. The infrared absorption spectra due to single phonons are composed of bands at 488, 417, and 331, as well as at 140/cm, corresponding to modes TO, LO, LA, and TA, respectively. The energies of TO, for example, are determined under high resolution at the point of maximum density of modes at Gamma, L., W, and X. They are 516.5 = 1, 488.5 = 1, 474 = 1, and 447 = 1. (Author)

Single phonon absorption bands in fast neutron irradiated silicon by Minko Balkanski ( Book )
1 edition published in 1963 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide
Theoretical considerations on the photon phonon interaction and experimental results concerning fast neutron irradiated silicon have been presented. The infrared absorption spectrum contains absorption bands at 488, 417, 332, and presumably at 140/cm attributed to a single phonon absorption process connected with the excitation of the fundamental modes, TO, LO, LA, and TA, respectively. These fundamental modes become active because of the lattice polarization bombardment. (Author)
Localized vibrations due to boron and lithium in the silicon lattice ( Book )
1 edition published in 1963 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide
The infrared absorption spectrum of Silicon crystals containing two electrically compensated impurities, Boron and Lithium, in concentrations above 10 to the 19th power per cu cm reveals six absorption peaks at: 648, 657, 585, 564, 534 and 522/cm 1 attributed to localized vibrations due to those impurities. Infrared study of localized vibrations in silicon due to boron and lithium ( Book )
1 edition published in 1965 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide
Infrared absorption was used to determine the characteristics of localized modes in silicon due to the electrically active impurities, the isotopes of boron and lithium. The impurity and isotopic origin of all peaks was indicated. An attempt was made to deduce the configuration of both impurities in the lattice from the number of observed peaks. The temperature effect on the position, width, and integrated intensity of absorption peaks was measured. The temperature dependence of the position and line width may indicate the role of anharmonic forces around the impurities. The study of the temperature dependence on the integrated absorption is a means for distinguishing the one-phonon absorption caused by other processes
