Hip-hop & rap : complete lyrics for 175 songs ; [preface by Spence D.]( Book )

1 edition published in 2003 in English and held by 211 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Rap music's place within the global pantheon of pop culture was forever solidified when Webster's decided to add the slang term def to the dictionary. Once considered an outsider art form, the music that originated from the streets of New York City has now become the new rock'n'roll, a major force dictating the trends of the day. Everything from fashion and advertising to literature and film has been touched by rap's infectious rhyme patterns and rhythmic interplay, making it one of the foremost musical genres of the era. At the core of this cultural fascination with rap music are the lyrics, which run the gamut from clever rhyme patterns and lighthearted party fare to gangsta verite, providing a glimpse into inner city life for those far removed from it. The end result of this raw street slang bathed in thumping beats has been the creation and ongoing evolution of an art form that speaks to all walks of life. The full spectrum of this vibrant genre is represented in this book by nearly 100 artists..."--Publisher's description

The show( Visual )

3 editions published between 1996 and 2004 in English and held by 63 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"The Show" takes place in the hip-hop world circa 1994-5. Black and white concert footage is interspersed with color scenes of life on a tour bus, in the studio, at the club, or in jail. Negotiations, concert promotions, publicity, and fan adoration are some of the topics addressed in candid interviews with the performers on the tour. Tour promoter Russell Simmons--the Brian Epstein/Berry Gordy/Bill Graham of rap--seems to relax while talking about the "industry," but snaps into business mode as soon as the cell rings. The film goes back and forth between the concert and documentary footage, illustrating both sides of life behind a microphone ... because in the ever-changing state of rap, the show never stops, even when the fans have left the stadium

This is the first Naughty by Nature release featuring all three members - Treach, Vin Rock and Kay Gee - since 1999's Nineteen Naughty Nine: Nature's Fury. The 1991 self-titled debut crossed hip-hop into the mainstream going platinum with hit singles such as 'O.P.P.' and 'Everything's Gonna Be Alright'. There was no sophomore jinx as the follow up album, 19 Naughty III, also went platinum and spawned the anthem 'Hip Hop Hooray', which still gets hands in the air whenever played. 1995's Poverty's Paradise won the Grammy for Best Rap Album, the first time the award was given
