Introduction to representation theory by P. I Etingof( Book )

13 editions published in 2011 in English and Undetermined and held by 277 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Very roughly speaking, representation theory studies symmetry in linear spaces. It is a beautiful mathematical subject which has many applications, ranging from number theory and combinatorics to geometry, probability theory, quantum mechanics, and quantum field theory. The goal of this book is to give a "holistic" introduction to representation theory, presenting it as a unified subject which studies representations of associative algebras and treating the representation theories of groups, Lie algebras, and quivers as special cases. Using this approach, the book covers a number of standard topics in the representation theories of these structures. Theoretical material in the book is supplemented by many problems and exercises which touch upon a lot of additional topics; the more difficult exercises are provided with hints
The unity of mathematics : in honor of the ninetieth birthday of I.M. Gelfand by P. I Etingof( Book )

25 editions published between 2006 and 2007 in English and held by 244 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"A tribute to the vision and legacy of Israel Moiseevich Gelfand, the invited papers in this volume reflect the unity of mathematics as a whole, with particular emphasis on the many connections among the fields of geometry, physics, and representation theory. Written by leading mathematicians, the text is broadly divided into two sections: the first is devoted to developments at the intersection of geometry and physics, and the second to representation theory and algebraic geometry. Topics include conformal field theory, K-theory, noncommutative geometry, gauge theory, representations of infinite-dimensional Lie algebras, and various aspects of the Langlands program. Graduate students and researchers will benefit from and find inspiration in this broad and unique work, which brings together fundamental results in a number of disciplines and highlights the rewards of an interdisciplinary approach to mathematics and physics."--Publisher's website

Calogero-Moser systems and representation theory by P. I Etingof( Book )

10 editions published in 2007 in English and held by 161 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Calogero-Moser systems, which were originally discovered by specialists in integrable systems are currently at the crossroads of many areas of mathematics and within the scope of interests of many mathematicians. More specifically, these systems and their generalizations turned out to have intrinsic connections with such fields as algebraic geometry (Hilbert schemes of surfaces), representation theory (double affine Hecke algebras, Lie groups, quantum groups), deformation theory (symplectic reflection algebras), homological algebra (Koszul algebras), Poisson geometry, etc. The goal of the present lecture notes is to give an introduction to the theory of Calogero-Moser systems, highlighting their interplay with these fields. Since these lectures are designed for non-experts, we give short introductions to each of the subjects involved, and provide a number of exercises. The book will be suitable for mathematics graduate students and researchers in the areas of representation theory, noncommutative algebra, algebraic geometry, and related areas
