Deze affaire had o.a. een discussie tot gevolg over de vraag of homorechten een onderdeel van de algemene mensenrechten zijn of dat homorechten een vanuit het westen geïmporteerd fenomeen zijn, dat als Eurocentrisch afgedaan kan worden. Misschien wel mede dankzij de affaire met de GALZ werden in Zuid Afrika 1996 homorechten in de algeme Bill of Rights opgenomen en dus erkend als mensenrecht
