Dr. Croaker runs a quack sanitarium, which is profitable to himself and a magnet for an entrepreneurial undertaker. Their prosperity is threatened by the arrival of a travelling medicine show. Every male in the story is in love with Peggy, a chorus girl. These males include Lafitoff, the show's strongman, who wins boxing matches by having an accomplice blow pepper at his opponents, making them sneeze and thus vulnerable to Lafitoff's fatal right. Dr. Croaker disrupts the medicine show by dumping gasoline into the bottles of elixir. He then enlists Peggy's aid, promising to make her the head nurse at the sanitarium. She tells him about the pepper trick. The weakling Dr. Croaker uses the trick successfully to beat the strongman in a boxing match
