Tamara de Lempicka : art deco icon by Tamara de Lempicka( Book )

2 editions published in 2004 in English and held by 487 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Tamara de Lempicka's distinctive painting style and subject matter perfectly matched her glamorous lifestyle and glittering social circle. With their trademark juxtaposition of rounded forms and angular architectural lines and shapes, her highly mannered portraits reflected the sophisticated urbanity of her sitters. Capturing the nascent modernist spirit, her bold technique and palette rapidly won her acclaim as the quintessential Art Deco artist." "Published to accompany the first exhibition in Britain dedicated to this extraordinary woman's oeuvre, this catalogue concentrates on her most productive and recognised period, between 1922 and 1935. These heady years saw her immortalise the atmosphere of wealth and decadence for which Paris had become famous between the wars." "Newly written texts investigate the background to her life and her art, and numerous colour illustrations of her key works confirm her reputation as one of the most iconic painters of her generation."--Jacket

Meret Oppenheim : retrospective by Meret Oppenheim( Book )

3 editions published in 2013 in 3 languages and held by 222 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"This work celebrates the 100th birthday of the key representative of French Surrealism, Meret Oppenheim (1913-1985). With Breakfast in Fur (1936), a teacup covered in fur, the young woman became a legend and key protagonist of French Surrealism. Her multifaceted, independent oeuvre includes painting, sculpture, poetry, and design, and avoids any sort of stylistic categorization or strict lines of development. Themes determine her artistic work: the transformation of the genders, of man and animal, nature and culture, reality and imagination; dreams, myths, games, and literary material, such as the writings of C. G. Jung, serve as sources of inspiration. The publication illuminates her diverse body of work in an international context and demonstrates the influence this personality had on later generations of artists, for instance as a feminist role model." -- From the Publisher

Herbert Brandl by Herbert Brandl( Book )

4 editions published in 2012 in German and English and held by 105 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Herbert Brandl (*1959 in Graz) is one of today's most influential painters. His participation in the 1992 documenta IX in Kassel and the Biennale di Venezia in 2007 attests to his presence on the international scene. Ever since he took up the brush, Brandl's work has concentrated predominantly on the subject of landscape, although the pictures themselves alternate between the painterly abstract and the representational in terms of motif. Above all, from the time the artist started integrating the motif of the mountain into his work, he has produced abstract color-field paintings and powerful mountain landscapes side by side. This publication presents a number of works from the early eighties onward, accompanied by very new paintings created specifically for the retrospective. In addition, the book explores Brandl's affinity for the paintings of Albrecht ltdorfer, Titian, and Peter Paul Rubens in the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna, which have been a lasting inspiration for his creative work."--Publisher's website

Sammlung Hubert Looser by Ingried Brügger( Book )

2 editions published in 2012 in German and held by 68 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

With its emphasis on Abstract Expressionism, Minimalism, and Arte Povera, the is one of the most outstanding private collections of modern and contemporary art in Switzerland. This is the first time that numerous groups of works from the collection's approximately four hundred exhibits are being presented in public, including Willem de Kooning, John Chamberlain, Cy Twombly, David Smith, Agnes Martin, and Giuseppe Penone, as well as individual pieces by artists such as Arshile Gorky, Alberto Giacometti, Pablo Picasso, and Anselm Kiefer. Especially remarkable is the way the works communicate with each other. Dialogues, constellations, and elective affinities among paintings, sculptures, and drawings become visible, as do the central aspects of the collection: the painterly gesture, the dominance of pure line, as well as the processual character of material and the mythical, archaic side of nature. This book provides insight into a private life with art
