DNA based computers II : DIMACS workshop, June 10-12, 1996 by Laura F Landweber( Book )

11 editions published between 1990 and 1999 in English and held by 135 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The fledgling field of DNA computers began in 1994 when Leonard Adleman surprised the scientific community by using DNA molecules, protein enzymes, and chemicals to solve an instance of a hard computational problem. This volume presents results from the second annual meeting on DNA computers held at Princeton only one and one-half years after Adleman's discovery. By drawing on the analogy between DNA computing and cutting-edge fields of biology (such as directed evolution), this volume highlights some of the exciting progress in the field and builds a strong foundation for the theory of molecu

Thermodynamic properties of argon by Eric B Baum( Book )

2 editions published in 1963 in English and held by 4 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The thermodynamic properties of high temperature argon are calculated. The composition, composition derivatives, compressibility, enthalpy, entropy, equilibrium and frozen heat capacity, gamma and speed of sound, are calculated over the temperature range 1,000-25,000 K and pressure range 0.0001-100 atm. Turbulent Wakes( Book )

2 editions published between 1972 and 1973 in English and held by 2 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The report describes progress in developing model equations based on an eddy viscosity written in terms of the scalar quantities for turbulence energy and integral length scale. The turbulence model equations have been shown to adequately describe mean and turbulence properties for incompressible and compressible flat plate boundary layers. Properties of an implicit finite difference method for solving the time-dependent model equations are discussed as applied to laminar (Navier-Stokes) problems. The method appears to be stable, of second order accuracy in space and time, and well behaved in the presence of internal shocks. (Author)

Effects of initial profile in the laminar mixing layer( Book )

1 edition published in 1965 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

The velocity and enthalpy distributions in the laminar mixing layer were calculated for a wide range of initial profiles. The profiles correspond to a Blasius velocity distribution and Crocco integral enthalpy distribution on a body just before separation. A simple model of the separation process assumes that the outer inviscid flow turns such that the Mach number increases from Me2 on the body to Me3 after separation, while the boundary layer flow expands isentropically along streamlines from the corresponding body pressure P2 to a mixing layer pressure P3. The effects of viscosity are neglected during the expansion, and at high Mach numbers, the generation of a significant pressure gradient across the former boundary layer during the expansion is not included. The calculations were performed for wall enthalpy ratios ranging from 0 (cold wall) to 1 (adiabatic wall), and expansions ranging from Me2/Me3 = .4 to Me2/Me3 = 1. The dividing streamline velocity at a downstream point in the mixing layer depends strongly on the profile distortion, but, the dividing streamline enthalpy functions are affected only slightly. An overall energy balance was used to find the mixing layer inner edge dimensionless enthalpy and the dividing streamline dimensionless enthalpy at the downstream end of the mixing layer. For the case of negligible net energy transport across the dividing streamline, these quantities were only slightly affected by the variation of initial profile shapes, suggesting the use of a single averaged curve for these quantities for all degrees of profile distortion

DNA Based Computers by Richard J Lipton( )

1 edition published in 1996 in English and held by 0 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This volume presents the proceedings of a conference held at Princeton University in April 1995 as part of the DIMACS Special Year on Mathematical Support for Molecular Biology. The subject of the conference was the new area of DNA based computing. DNA based computing is the study of using DNA strands as individual computers. The concept was initiated by Leonard Adleman's paper in Science in November 1994
