Join folk-rock musician Ani DiFranco in a four part film series filmed live along the Mississippi River, highlighting the richness and vitality of American music at the close of the 20th century. This fourth segment covers music from from Natchez, Mississippi to Delacroix Island in the Gulf of Mexico. In the bayous of Louisiana, country and blues come together with French styles, creating the potent dance rhythms of Cajun and zydeco. New Orleans soul : the original sound of New Orleans soul 1966-76( Recording )

1 edition published in 2014 in English and held by 20 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

For more than 10 yrs Soul Jazz Records have been exploring and documenting the sound of New Orleans Funk - they now turn their hand to the flipside - New Orleans Soul. The two musical forms share a lineage that begins with the city's enormous Rhythm & Blues explosion during the post war 40s and 50s. New Orleans soul incorporated the soulful vocals of the gospel church, the driving beat of R&B and traces of second line parade bands. The compilation features New Orleans Soul in all its glory from the deep soul singers of Aaron Neville, Willie Tee and Robert Parker to the storming Northern Soul of Maurice Williams, Eldridge Holmes, and the funky soul of Eddie Bo and soul sisters Irma Thomas and Betty Harris. The album comes complete with extensive sleeve notes, exclusive photography and supreme sound quality

New Orleans : the original sound of funk( Recording )

1 edition published in 2016 in English and held by 8 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This fourth volume, subtitled Voodoo Fire in New Orleans 1951-1977, metaphorically scrapes the bottom of the pot -- and that's where most of the flavor lies. In a typically excellent historical and musical overview, set compiler S. Baker goes to some lengths in an attempt to connect the dots between the arrival of voodoo in New Orleans in the early 19th century and the music found here. Though it's an engaging and labyrinthine journey, its touchpoints are more tangential than concrete, but it's fascinating all the same. Like its predecessors, the sequence presentation is aesthetic rather than chronological
