Axel Berg is a trained lawyer. In 1998, against all expectations, we won a seat in the Bundestag, the German Parliament, by direct mandate. This is where the filmed observation of his climb to the higher reaches of politics begins, first in Bonn and then in Berlin. Over a period of almost 5 years a very personal document has been assembled, the picture of a politician seen from a different perspective. Now that Axel Berg can go about his tasks with greater assurance after a taxing apprenticeship, he has to stand for re-election. The film ends on Election Day 2002
