The most cherished film by Charlie Chaplin is also his ultimate Little Tramp chronicle. The writer-director-star achieved new levels of grace, in both physical comedy and dramatic poignancy, with this silent tale of a lovable vagrant falling for a young blind woman who sells flowers on the street and mistakes him for a millionaire. Though this Depression-era smash was made after the advent of sound, Chaplin remained steadfast in his love for the expressive beauty of the pre-talkie form

The girl snaps a picture of Dad sleeping, with Harry next to him, holding the fish. Then Harry ties the fish to Dad's line. They hide, and throw a stone at Dad to wake him. Dad is ecstatic about his good luck. Later the proud fisherman prepares to serve a fish dinner to his friends, with a professional photograph of him with his fish, prominantly on display. Harry arrives and the girl persuades her reluctant father to leave the feast for a minute and speak to him. They show him the receipt for the fish, and the photograph with Dad asleep and Harry beside him, holding the fish. Then they threaten to expose his "fish story" to all of his admiring friends. Dad is forced to agree to let his daughter see Harry again
