Interviews with prominent choreographers and excerpts from their works contribute to a vivid picture of current thinking and stage practice. Dance critic Jochen Schmidt gives his assessment of the contemporary scene. Also described are influential dancer-choreographers of the past, among them Valeska Gert, Mary Wigman, and Dore Hoyer. The late Kurt Jooss, seen in an interview recorded in 1976, recalls his mentor Rudolf Laban ; his daughter Anna Markard, in turn, contrasts her father's concept of Tanztheater to choreographic works seen today

La Baignoire Im Bade Wannen by Charles Picq( Visual )

Tanztheater - Reinhild Hoffmann, Susanne Linke Dance theatre - Reinhild Hoffmann, Susanne Linke( Visual )

1 edition published in 1992 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

Documentary on the German modern dance choreographers Reinhild Hoffmann and Susanne Linke, beginning with their training at the Folkwang Schule in Essen, which both co-directed for a time. In remembering their experiences there, Linke describes the teaching of Hans Züllig, while Hoffmann recalls the lessons of composition class. The program then alternates between their separate careers, examining Linke's work as a dance soloist and Hoffmann's association with municipal theaters in Bremen and Bochum. Discussing her solo choreography, Linke cites the inspiration of Mary Wigman and Dore Hoyer, the latter seen in an excerpt from her Afectos humanos. Hoffmann describes the process of assessing and perfecting a piece, and compares the advantages and disadvantages of freelancing with working for an organization. Linke describes the experience of creating her all-male group piece, Ruhrort, an homage to the Ruhr district of Germany. Works discussed and/or seen in excerpts are: Hoffmann's Ich schenk mein Herz; Solo mit Sofa; Hochzeit; Könige und Königinnen; Callas; and Machandel; and Linke's Frauenballett; Im Bade wannen; Flut; Orient-Occident; and Ruhrort
