This painting is typical of crucifixion scenes, the Virgin Mary is on the left, while St. John the Evangelist is on the right. Mary presents a kneeling male figure, probably the donor of the work, to Christ. In the center is Christ with his wounded hands crossed over his body, but the cross and the figure emerge from a sarcophagus, an image related to the resurrection. The gold ground and halos of the figures are embellished with decorative punchwork
