Hazard assessment keys for evaluating site sensitivity to soil degrading processes guidebook ( Book )
6 editions published between 1995 and 1999 in English and held by 33 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
This guidebook is intended to help forest managers assess the inherent sensitivity of a site to three major soil-degrading forest practices: compaction and puddling, soil displacement, and soil erosion. The guidebook provides keys to rate hazards as low, moderate, high, and very high. For each process, the guidebook presents definitions, controlling site factors, and management considerations. An appendix contains a listing of precipitation factors for biogeoclimatic zones of British Columbia by forest region, a rating system for use when there is a requirement to evaluate the risk of sediment delivery to streams, and a list of slope instability indicators
Fish-stream identification guidebook ( Book )
4 editions published between 1995 and 1998 in English and held by 33 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
The British Columbia Forest Practices Code specifies planning and operational guidelines for each phase of timber harvesting operations around streams, lakes, and wetlands. This guide describes suitable practices to meet the objectives of the riparian management regulations within the Code, specifically the requirement to correctly identify streams on the basis of fish presence in order to ensure the protection of fish populations and habitats during all phases of forest harvesting. The guide defines the classes of streams distinguished for aquatic ecosystem and riparian zone management, identifies fish species that define a stream as fish-bearing under the Code, and describes factors influencing fish-stream identification such as stream reach, gradient, stream size, natural barriers, and fisheries sensitive zones. The guide concludes with methods for identifying fish streams, including measurement, sampling, data recording, and mapping procedures

Stand management prescription guidebook ( Book )
3 editions published between 1995 and 1999 in English and held by 25 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
A stand management prescription (SMP) is an operational plan for describing actions to be carried out on a free-growing site to ensure that planned stand management maintains or enhances resource values, ensure resource values are identified and accommodated, and set out a series of stand management activities to produce a stand capable of meeting the stated management objectives. This document has been written to help prepare SMPs that comply with the British Columbia Forest Practices Code. It includes general requirements for SMPs and information on the SMP format, identification and collection of background information, setting of stand-level resource objectives, conducting fieldwork, identification of the SMP location through an administrative description of the treatment areas, ensuring consistency with objectives presented in higher-level plans and objectives, recording ecological classification and stand characteristics of the SMP site, providing target stand conditions and strategies, post-treatment standards, and mapping requirements. A SMP template is included
