If one thing matters, everything matters by Wolfgang Tillmans ( Book )
12 editions published in 2003 in 3 languages and held by 348 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
"Wolfgang Tillmans (b. 1968) is one of the most significant European artists at work today. His informal and apparently spontaneous photographs of gay pride activists, ecowarriors, and clubbers brought him attention at an early age and eventually won him acclaim as a chronicler of his generation." "Tillmans's work spans the genres of landscape, cityscape, portraiture, and still life. He focuses on the overlooked details of life - a bunch of keys in a door, the chaotic sprawl in an open cabinet - and the grand sweep of natural phenomena, including solar eclipses and electrical storms. Packed with more than 2,000 color illustrations, this book features a fascinating interview with curator Mary Horlock in which Tillmans reveals the art historical connections and the common themes that unite his disparate work." "Published to coincide with a major exhibition at Tate Britain, If One Thing Matters, Everything Matters presents the most comprehensive survey of Tillman's work to date. Conceived and designed by the artist, it demonstrates a continually developing vision, constantly embracing new ideas and offering fresh perspectives on the world around us."--BOOK JACKET

Wolfgang Tillmans by Jan Verwoert ( Book )
8 editions published between 2002 and 2014 in English and Undetermined and held by 152 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
"Turner-prize winning Wolfgang Tillmans is a superstar of 1990s photography. This is the only book to cover his entire career, from the best-selling debut portraits in 1995 at the age of 24, to his most recent, abstract works. Large colour photographs such as Lutz and Alex Sitting in the Trees (1992), of a couple - naked save for their incongruous raincoats - perched in a tree are emblems of his generation. Tillmans has more recently expanded his practice to include found photography as well as large installations reminiscent of the collage techniques of the 1960s Conceptual artists." "American artist and theorist Peter Halley discusses with the artist his rapidly changing role, from mid 1990s Wunderkind to established master of the 'new photography' today. German critic Jan Verwoert surveys the artist's many genres and styles, spanning abstract and figurative imagery. Japanese critic and curator Midori Matsui analyses in her Focus a single project, Concorde (1997), a room-size installation and artist's book which records the daily passing of this epoch-making aeroplane. Extracts from a nineteenth-century Quaker text by Caroline Stephen on divine inspiration comprise the Artist's Choice. In the Artist's Writings Wolfgang Tillmans' art is reflected in his diary entries, fragments of text from his installations and project notes."--BOOK JACKET

"In 2000 Wolfgang Tillmans received the Turner Prize, Britain's most prestigious contemporary art award. The continual presence of the thirty-three-year-old London resident in exhibitions and the media does not, however, date merely from that year. Tillmans's new abstract pictures bear witness to the fact that he is much more than simply a chronicler of his own age. This publication presents the first overview of these works, landscapes and cityscapes that have been reworked by using unsettling light effects. It also includes Tillmans's Blushes and Mental Pictures, seemingly fragile compositions that he created without negatives, simply by exposing the photographic paper to light. These recent works shed considerable light on Tillmans's figurative photographs - his images of drapery, the still lifes, the Eclipse and Concorde series - in which the abstract quality of his motifs and compositions had already begun to take centre stage. Most of the images reproduced in the present volume - in particular the photographs and ink-jet prints of the past four years - mark a new phase in the artists work, whose latest developments he discusses in a riveting interview."--BOOK JACKET
