The Bauhaus in Calcutta : an encounter of cosmopolitan avant-gardes by Bauhaus( Book )

4 editions published in 2013 in English and held by 115 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The Bauhaus exhibition in Calcutta in 1922 was a unique experience on the international art scene--a meeting of artistic and intellectual affinities. On a search for renewal after World War I, Western modernism encountered its Indian counterpart, which had emancipated itself from colonial constraints. At the Bauhaus's first international show, works by Paul Klee, Lyonel Feininger, Johannes Itten, and other Bauhaus artists were presented alongside those of modern Indian artists such as Nandalal Bose, Sunayani Devi, and Abanindranath and Gaganendranath Tagore. This publication gives an account how this unusual encounter came about and presents the exhibition as an exemplary case of art history that dealt with shared visions rather than transmissions from the West to the East

Julius Koller. One Man Anti Show by Daniel Grúň( Book )

4 editions published between 2016 and 2017 in German and English and held by 14 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Július Koller is one of the most important Eastern European artists working since the 1960s, whose art had and has considerable international significance. This is the most comprehensive exhibition of the Slovak artist's work to date, documenting his independent contribution to the neoavantgarde and based on painstaking research into his art and archives. Koller's work developed in critical distance to the communist authorities and their official art, and it also questioned traditions in modernism and the conventions of the Western art business. Since the mid-1960s he designed Antihappenings and Antipictures, creating a playfully ironic oeuvre that combined a Dadaist spirit with radical-skeptical stance. 00Exhibition: Mumok, Vienna, Austria (25.11.2016-17.04.2017)
