A probabilistic theory of pattern recognition by Luc Devroye( Book )

18 editions published between 1995 and 2008 in English and held by 435 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Wherever possible, distribution-free properties and inequalities are derived. A substantial portion of the results or the analysis is new. Over 430 problems and exercises complement the material
Prediction, learning, and games by Nicolò Cesa-Bianchi( Book )

14 editions published between 2006 and 2010 in English and held by 304 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This text and reference for researchers and students in machine learning, game theory, statistics and information theory offers a comprehensive treatment of the problem of predicting individual sequences
Combinatorial methods in density estimation by Luc Devroye( Book )

12 editions published between 2000 and 2001 in English and held by 285 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Density estimation has evolved enormously since the days of bar plots and histograms, but researchers and users are still struggling with the problem of the selection of the bin widths. This text explores a new paradigm for the data-based or automatic selection of the free parameters of density estimates in general so that the expected error is within a given constant multiple of the best possible error. The paradigm can be used in nearly all density estimates and for most model selection problems, both parametric and nonparametric. It is the first book on this topic. The text is intended for first-year graduate students in statistics and learning theory, and offers a host of opportunities for further research and thesis topics. Each chapter corresponds roughly to one lecture, and is supplemented with many classroom exercises. A one year course in probability theory at the level of Feller's Volume 1 should be more than adequate preparation. Gabor Lugosi is Professor at Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona, and Luc Debroye is Professor at McGill University in Montreal. In 1996, the authors, together with Lászlo Györfi, published the successful text, A Probabilistic Theory of Pattern Recognition with Springer-Verlag. Both authors have made many contributions in the area of nonparametric estimation
Learning theory : 19th Annual Conference on Learning Theory, COLT 2006, Pittsburgh, PA, USA, June 22-25, 2006 : proceedings by Gábor Lugosi( Book )

Concentration inequalities : a nonasymptotic theory of independence by Stéphane Boucheron( Book )

17 editions published in 2013 in English and held by 164 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Describes the interplay between the probabilistic structure (independence) and a variety of tools ranging from functional inequalities to transportation arguments to information theory. Applications to the study of empirical processes, random projections, random matrix theory, and threshold phenomena are also presented
