Barnett Newman : paintings, sculptures, works on paper by Armin Zweite( Book )

4 editions published in 1999 in English and held by 453 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"The central works of Barnett Newman's oeuvre - many of which are reproduced here as full-page color plates - are the subject of an analytical study by Armin Zweite. This study not only gives a comprehensive appraisal of Newman's paintings, from his beginnings through his later works - predominantly large-format, monochromatic paintings - but also deals in detail with all of Newman's sculptures - "Here I", "Here II", and "Here III", "Broken Obelisk", "Lace Curtain for Mayor Daley", and "Zim Zum I" and "Zim Zum II"--as well as with Newman's Model for a Synagogue. The book affords a more differentiated insight into Newman's hermetic oeuvre than would ever be possible in separate treatises on individual parts or periods of Newman's work."--Jacket
Vision : the life and music of Hildegard von Bingen by Barbara Newman( Book )

10 editions published in 1995 in English and held by 397 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Hildegard von Bingen lived in Germany's Rhineland valley during most of the twelfth century (1098-1179). Besides being the abbess of a large and prosperous Benedictine abbey, she was a prominent writer, preacher, healer, poet, and composer who wrote nine books on theology, medicine, science, and physiology. Hildegard has been called the first medieval woman to reflect on and write about women. At the age of forty-two, HIldegard began to describe the mystical visions that she had experienced throughout her life, and in so doing she shared her theology with the world. As Matthew Fox has said, "If Hildegard had been a man, she would be well known as one of the greatest artists and intellectuals the world has ever seen."
On the beneficence of censorship : Aesopian language in modern Russian literature by Lev Losev( Book )

1 edition published in 1984 in English and held by 7 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Lev Loseff (1937), der Leningrad 1976 verlassen musste und seit 1979 in Hannover, New Hampshire am Dartmouth College in den USA als Professor of Russian Language and Literature lehrt, hat u.a. Werke von E. Švarc, N. Olejnikov und M. Bulgakov herausgegeben. In seiner ersten großen Monographie "On the Beneficence of Censorship: Aesopian Language in Modern Russian Literature" analysiert Loseff an Werken von Švarc, Solženicyn, Evtušenko u.a. die aus der Auseinandersetzung mit der Zensur gebotenen stilistischen - auch bereichernden - Besonderheiten der modernen, in der Sowjetunion entstandenen russischen Literatur und veranschaulicht diese im Kontext von Werk, Autor und Epoche. Teilw. In kyrillischer Schrift. Durchsuchbare elektronische Faksimileausgabe als PDF. Digitalisiert im Rahmen des DFG-Projektes Digi20 in Kooperation mit der BSB München. OCR-Bearbeitung durch den Verlag Otto Sagner

Wait, later this will be nothing : editions by Dieter Roth by Sarah J. S Suzuki( Book )

1 edition published in 2013 in English and held by 5 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Dieter Roth's artmaking practices were wildly inventive across many different mediums, but it was arguably through his editioned works--books, prints, and multiples--that he made his most important and radical contributions. These experiments include literature "sausages" filled with ground-up books, newpapers, or magazines in place of meat; the use of organic materials like fruit juice in lieu of printing inks; multiples of plastic toys mired in chocolate; and a dazzling array of variations on printed postcards. Focusing on the prolific period of Roth's work between 1960 and 1972, this volume highlights examples of his most exciting and innovative books and graphics." --back cover
