Communication nets; stochastic message flow and delay by Leonard Kleinrock( Book )

20 editions published between 1964 and 2014 in English and held by 354 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Considerable research has been devoted to the formulation and solution of problems involving flow within connected networks. Independent of these surveys, an extensive body of knowledge has accumulated on the subject of queues, particularly in regard to stochastic flow through single-node servicing facilities. This text combines studies of connected networks with those of stochastic flow, providing a basis for understanding the general behavior and operation of communication networks in realistic situations.Author Leonard Kleinrock of the Computer Science Department at UCLA created the basic principle of packet switching, the technology underpinning the Internet. In this text, he develops a queuing theory model of communications nets. Its networks are channel-capacity limited; consequently, the measure of performance is taken to be the average delay encountered by a message in passing through the net. Topics include questions pertaining to optimal channel capacity assignment, effect of priority and other queue disciplines, choice of routine procedure, fixed-cost restraint, and design of topological structures. Many separate facets are brought into focus in the concluding discussion of the simulation of communication nets, and six appendices offer valuable supplementary information
Queueing systems : problems and solutions by Leonard Kleinrock( Book )

11 editions published between 1992 and 2011 in English and held by 235 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Beschreibung der Redaktion: Presents and develops methods from queueing theory in mathematical language and in sufficient depth so that the student may apply the methods to many modern engineering problems and conduct creative research. Step-by-step development of results with careful explanation, and lists of important results make it useful as a handbook and a text. Inhaltsverzeichnis: From the contents: Queueing Systems. Realizing the information future : the Internet and beyond by National Research Council (U.S.)( Book )

3 editions published in 1994 in English and held by 77 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This report examines the issues related to the formation of an integrated National Information Infrastructure (nii) from the perspectives of the education and research communities. The report presents a vision of the future for the nii based on an Open Data Network (odn). The report begins by examining the background and the visions for the future of U.S. networking. It moves on to the odn addressing the following issues: the criteria, objectives, and benefits of the odn; the structure of the odn; quality of service; the role of standards in the shaping of the nii; security of the odn; and areas for further research on the nii. The research, education, and library communities are examined in order to identify their networking needs and roles in the nii. Principles for the design and implementation of the nii are identified including: equal access to the nii; access to information on the nii; privacy; intellectual property protection; and other ethical concerns. Finally, the issue of funding for the nii is examined as well as the role the government will and should play in shaping the nii. (Jlb)
Nerds 2.0.1 : a brief history of the Internet( Visual )

1 edition published in 1998 in English and held by 34 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

A three part series examining the ins and outs of one of the most volatile industries: the Internet. This first episode examines how the seeds of the Internet were planted by Sputnik. In a reaction to Russia's leap ahead in technology, the Pentagon developed a new agency called ARPA. ARPAnet was created to connect computer researchers at universities across the nation. In nine months flat, the technology was invented, built and installed
Computer network research by Leonard Kleinrock( Book )

34 editions published between 1970 and 1975 in English and Undetermined and held by 31 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The report presents two papers on the ARPA computer network. The first dwells on analytic and simulation models suitable for computer network design. The second effort emphasized here is that of the HOST-HOST communication protocol in the ARPA network (HOST is a computer system which is a member of the ARPA network)

Advanced teleprocessing systems : access, allocation and control : final technical report by Leonard Kleinrock( Book )

17 editions published between 1976 and 1986 in English and held by 15 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This Semi-Annual Technical Report covers research carried out by the Advanced Teleprocessing Systems Group at UCLA under DARPA Contract No. MDA 903-82-C-0064 covering the period from April 1, 1983 to September 30, 1983. This contract has three primary designated research areas: packet radio systems, resource sharing and allocation, and distributed processing and control. This report contains the abstracts of the publications which summarize our research results in those areas during this semi-annual period, followed by the main body of the report which consists of the Ph. D. dissertation by H. Richard Gail, 'On the Optimization of Computer Network Power', conducted under the supervision of Professor Leonard Kleinrock (Principal Investigator for this contract). It addresses the tradeoff between throughput and delay involving the selection of a suitable operating point for a computer network. This tradeoff is studied through the maximization of various throughput-delay performance measures, all known as power. The models analyzed for the most part are those for a terrestrial wire network
