Climate Change 2001: Mitigation is the most comprehensive and up-to-date scientific, technical and economic assessment of options to mitigate climate change and their costs. The report: - Makes clear there are strong inter-linkages between climate change policy and policies towards sustainable development. - Assesses information on technological options to reduce greenhouse gas emissions or enhance their sinks. - Analyses technologies and practices available to achieve the targets of the Kyoto Protocol and stabilise atmospheric concentrations of greenhouse gases. - Evaluates barriers impeding implementation of these options and methods available to overcome them. - Summarises the economic literature on costs of climate change mitigation at global, regional and national levels. - Evaluates the other benefits that climate policy can deliver or the climate benefits of other socio-economic policies. - Assesses how this information can be used to support climate policy decision making, acknowledging various decision-making frameworks. This latest IPCC assessment will again form the standard scientific reference for all concerned with climate change and who want to be informed of ways to address this important global problem: including students and researchers in environmental and social sciences, and policymakers and analysts in governmental and non-governmental organisations and the private sector world-wide

Renewable energy sources and climate change mitigation : special report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change by Ottmar Edenhofer( Book )

7 editions published in 2012 in English and held by 376 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change Special Report (IPCC-SRREN) assesses the potential role of renewable energy in the mitigation of climate change. It covers the six most important renewable energy sources - bioenergy, solar, geothermal, hydropower, ocean and wind energy - as well as their integration into present and future energy systems. It considers the environmental and social consequences associated with the deployment of these technologies and presents strategies to overcome technical as well as non-technical obstacles to their application and diffusion. SRREN brings a broad spectrum of technology-specific experts together with scientists studying energy systems as a whole. Prepared following strict IPCC procedures, it presents an impartial assessment of the current state of knowledge: it is policy relevant but not policy prescriptive. SRREN is an invaluable assessment of the potential role of renewable energy for the mitigation of climate change for policymakers, the private sector and academic researchers

Methodological and technological issues in technology transfer by Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change( Book )

9 editions published in 2000 in English and held by 239 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Effective global response to climate change requires the development and transfer of environmentally sound technologies between and within countries, both for adapting to climate change as well as for mitigating the effects of greenhouse gas emissions. This IPCC report provides an overview of how to achieve and enhance this transfer. 185 eminent experts from around the world provide accurate, unbiased, policy-relevant information on technology transfer, such as capacity building, the promotion of an enabling environment, and mechanisms for technology transfer from developed to developing countries.--Publisher's description
Aviation and the global atmosphere : a special report of IPCC Working Groups I and III in collaboration with the Scientific Assessment Panel to the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer( Book )

1 edition published in 1999 in English and held by 239 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"This Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Special Reports is the most comprehensive assessment available of the effects of aviation on the global atmosphere. The report considers all the gases and particles emitted by aircraft into the atmosphere and the role they play in modifying the chemical properties of the atmosphere and initiating the formation of contrails. The report then considers how all this can modify the radiative properties of the atmosphere, leading to climate change, and how it can modify the ozone layer, leading to changes in ultraviolet radiation reaching the Earth. The report also considers how potential changes in aircraft technology, air transport operations, and the institutional, regulatory, and economic framework might affect emissions in the future." "This volume provides accurate, unbiased, policy-relevant information to serve the aviation industry, policymakers, environmental organizations, and researchers in global change, atmospheric chemistry, and economics."--Jacket

The Working Group III contribution to the IPCC's Fifth Assessment Report (AR5) assesses literature on the scientific, technological, environmental, economic and social aspects of mitigation of climate change. It builds upon the Working Group III contribution to the IPCC's Fourth Assessment Report (AR4), the Special Report on Renewable Energy Sources and Climate Change Mitigation (SRREN) and previous reports and incorporates subsequent new findings and research. The report also assesses mitigation options at different levels of governance and in different economic sectors, and the societal implications of different mitigation policies, but does not recommend any particular option for mitigation. This Summary for Policymakers (SPM) follows the structure of the Working Group III report. The narrative is supported by a series of highlighted conclusions which, taken together, provide a concise summary. The basis for the SPM can be found in the chapter sections of the underlying report and in the Technical Summary (TS). References to these are given in squared brackets
