"1900 is an epic film of massive scope, power and controversy. It is both a vast history of the 20th century Italy and an intimate portrait of two friends, both born on January 1, 1900-- the son of the socialist peasant farmer ... and the son of the fascist landowner"--Container

4 editions published in 2012 in Italian and held by 9 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
Ingegner Gadda va alla guerra o della tragica istoria di Amleto Pirobutirro = The engineer Gadda Goes to War: In a continuous cross between a biography of Carlo Emilio Gadda and the drama of the most famous of Shakespeare's tragedies, Fabrizio Gifuni and Giuseppe Bertolucci returned to work together to propose an innovative theater. Bertolucci and Gifuni look at another key author of the twentieth-century Italian culture, looking into the life of this engineer in spite of belonging the middle-class Milanese hypothetical Shakespearean tragic figure, a Hamlet forced to pretend to be crazy to escape from a world that hopelessly alien. The engineer Gadda Goes to War is a fascinating monologue in which the worlds of fiction overlap to coincide with the biographical details of the life of Gadda. A modern crossover could be described as a synthesis between the noble prince of Denmark and the South American hidalgo Gonzalo Pirobutirro, perhaps the most autobiographical of the entire production of Gadda

La rabbia di Pasolini ( Visual )
1 edition published in 2008 in Italian and held by 7 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
La Rabbia employs documentary footage (from the 1950's) and accompanying commentary to attempt to answer the existential question, Why are our lives characterized by discontent, anguish, and fear? The film was originally in two completely separate parts, and the directors of these respective sections, left-wing Pier Paolo Pasolini and conservative Giovanni Guareschi, offered the viewer contrasting analyses of and prescriptions for modern society. Part I, by Pasolini, is a denunciation of the offenses of Western culture, particularly those against colonized Africa. It is at the same time a chronicle of the liberation and independence of the former African colonies, portraying these peoples as the new protagonists of the world stage, holding up Marxism as their salvation, and suggesting that their innocent ferocity will be the new religion of the era. Pasollini's segment was severly cut, and the the pairing with Guareschi reduced it to a banal political diatribe. This reconstruction is an attempt to endow the work with the form, approch, and diversity intended by Pasolini in the making of the original feature film. The appendix features defamatory newsreels about Pasolini and excerpts from an interview with Pasolini
