The woman God forgot ( Visual )
1 edition published in 1917 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide
At the time of Cortez's encounter with the Aztec emperor Montezuma, the emperor's daughter, Tecza, falls in love with a Spanish captain. To save him from death at the altar of the war god she opens the city gates to the Spanish forces. Inspired by Rider Haggard's novel, Montezuma's Daughter, De Mille's historical spectacle (it was the second of many), with its massive set and set pieces such as the battle on the pyramids, transposed onto film the scale of the pageantry movement in early 20th century America. The Variety reviewer of the time noted that the white skin of his star Geraldine Farrar, generously displayed by De Mille, stands out against the 'bronze hue' of her fellow Aztecs. De Mille's favourite male actor of the time, Theodore Kosloff, brings his striking presence to the role of an imperial Aztec warrior
