Photographic prints, lithographs, engravings, posters, charts, broadsides, and other pictorial items related to the American Civil War. Subjects include battle scenes, prisoner of war camps, forts, Lee and Grant at Appomattox, campaign posters, monuments, cemeteries, reunions, Union officers, rosters, and group portraits, mostly of units from Massachusetts and other northeastern states. The collection contains a set of photomechanical reproductions of Mathew Brady photographs, color lithographic reproductions of paintings by Thure Thulstrup, original pencil drawings and watercolors credited to Lieutenant Culling documenting Union General John Fremont's army in Missouri and the capture of Fort Hatteras in North Carolina, and a large 1863 campaign poster (in three sheets) quoting a letter by Southern sympathizer and democratic candidate for city treasurer of Philadelphia John Brodhead in urging "all men who despise meanness and servility" to vote for Union League of Philadelphia candidate Harry Bumm
