Having sworn eternal enmity to all Indians, Samuel Brady and Lewis Wetzel became two of the most noted scouts, spies, and Indian fighters during the Revolution and postwar Indian conflicts, according to historian Lyman Draper. Between 1843 and 1868 Draper collected the majority of Brady and Wetzel letters; receipts; and business, legal, and military records. He also prepared sketches on such notable Indian chiefs as Shingas, Tamaque, and Tanacharison
