Queer theory and social change by Max H Kirsch( Book )

20 editions published between 2000 and 2013 in English and Undetermined and held by 360 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"The emergence of queer theory represents a huge leap in our understanding of lesbian and gay peoples. It embodies a context for treating these people as worthy of consideration in their own rights and not as an appendage to general cultural theory. Max Kirsch argues that the current development of this area is in danger of repeating past mistakes in the construction of analyses, and ultimately, social movements. In this way, the book presents an alternative to the current fascination with the abstract categories of identity, culture and difference, and emphasizes the need for a discussion of the importance of communities and globalization on queer movements."--Jacket

In the wake of the giant : multinational restructuring and uneven development in a New England community by Max H Kirsch( Book )

4 editions published in 1998 in English and held by 224 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Based on anthropological fieldwork in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, In the Wake of the Giant has implications for towns and cities across the country and internationally. It traces the history of the Pittsfield region, the U.S. economy, and the tidal wave of multinational corporate restructurings. Comparing communities undergoing restructuring to newly independent states, Kirsch shows how these communities confront for the first time the challenge of directing their own present and future. The turmoil that develops as a result of these changes, and the means by which individuals, kin-groups and community voluntary organizations react and adapt are central themes of the book
